# Import a text or Markdown file

> Turn a .txt or .md file into a new article.

If you already have docs in text or Markdown, import them instead of retyping.

## Import a file

1. Open **Help center**.
2. Select **Add a new source**, then **Create a new article**.
3. Select **Import .txt or .md** under the editor, or drop the file onto that button.
4. Check the title and body it filled in, then pick a collection and a status.
5. Select **Save**.

Files can be up to 1 MB. Headings, lists, links, and code blocks in Markdown come through as formatting.

## One file, one article

Each import fills one new article. For several files, import them one at a time.
