# Send from your own address

> Email visitors from an address like support@acme.com instead of via chat.sh.

Emails to your visitors come from your help center's name via chat.sh. On a paid plan, you can send them from an address on your own domain instead, like [support@acme.com](mailto:support@acme.com).

## Set it up

1. Open **Inbox**, then **Settings**.
2. Under **Send from your own address**, enter the address and select **Save**.
3. Add the two records shown to your DNS host:
    - A **CNAME** record that signs your mail as yours (DKIM).
    - A **CNAME** record for the return path, where bounces go.
4. Select **Check DNS**.

Once both records are found, the status says **Live**, and emails to visitors come from your address.

## Choosing an address

- Use an address on a domain you own. Addresses at Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and other mailbox providers cannot be used, because only those providers can sign mail for their domains.
- A subdomain works well, like [support@mail.acme.com](mailto:support@mail.acme.com). It keeps these emails apart from the rest of your company's mail.
- Changing the address on the same domain needs no new records. A different domain needs its own records.

## Nothing changes for replies

Visitors' replies still come back to your inbox, so you do not need to change your MX records or where your mail is delivered. Only the sender your visitors see changes.

## While you wait

DNS usually updates within a few minutes, and sometimes takes an hour. Until the records are found, emails keep going out via chat.sh, so no reply is held up.

If your domain ever stops working for sending, for example after the records are removed, emails go out via chat.sh instead, so visitors still get your replies.

## Cloudflare

Set both records' proxy status to **DNS only**, with a grey cloud. Mail records cannot be proxied.

## Go back to chat.sh's address

Clear the address and select **Remove**. Emails go out via chat.sh again right away. Then delete the two records from your DNS host.

## If your plan changes

Sending from your own address is part of the paid plans. Every paid plan is a lifetime, so it stays on for good. If a workspace is no longer on a paid plan, the address is kept but paused, and emails go out via chat.sh until it is on a paid plan again.
